What we thought of it: Located in a bylane of Bandra, Toto's is one of Bandra's favourite pubs. It’s a small, sometimes crowded pub, with a garage theme. The DJ who plays classic rock, hard rock, heavy metal, nu metal and all sorts of cool stuff sits in the front half of a Maruti Van suspended above the seating area. The grills, engine parts, hub caps and license plates hanging on the walls actually add to the charm (trust me)
Classic Rock and Beer One of my favourite places to have chilled beer and sit from dusk to late night listening to ozzy on a crazy train to pantera sweating bullets cause metallica is spreading fuel and the doors have just light my fire well wat can I say when gnr comes knocking on heavens door you better have some beer french fries and chicken tikka
Cheers and Beers Toto's Garage Pub is small, smoky (well, it used to be), crowded, never has place to sit, doesn't take requests and has an obvious soft corner for the regulars (and there are tons of them).
So why do so many people love it so?
I don't know. I'm an "insider" so I get the royal treatment. Toto's is a great place for a girl (or even a guy, for that matter) to grab a beer, all by her/himself. The music gets too loud for conversation most times, and that's fine because the music is just the way you want to hear it. Right from CCR to U2 to Metallica to Creed, the playlist might be on shuffle no repeat but the hits just keep coming.
Seating's limited but the atmosphere is so cozy that you don't mind standing or even sharing a bar stool with a stranger. It's probably got the freshest and coldest draught in Mumbai. Don't bother yourself with the cocktails on the menu, just stick to the mugs and pitchers.
For munchies (don't come looking for a wholesome dinner here) there's spicy masala peanuts which go great with the lager. There are a lot of pseudo chinese snacks, my favourite being the chicken bird's nest - nuggets wrapped in crispy noodles. There's also juicy sausages to pop as you listen to the music get louder and louder.
It's a great place to get sozzled, make new friends and listen to some quality music. The smoke ban has actually made it tolerable to sit for long hours now. It's not the place to dress up and shake a leg, so all you party people can just shimmy down to the Hawaiian Shack down the road!

It's far from Classic Rock. Though we might get to hear Sultans Of Swing in early hours, the DJ goes into a Ramstein, Ministry, Metallica trip. And that rocks!
The place is not for couples who dance to anything. Its for the people who know their music.
