What it says about itself: The Ghetto is one of Bombay's oldest bars and one of the few purely Rock and Alternative places. Nearly every celebrity has visited the Ghetto. It has a chilled out vibe with no cover charge and no emphasis on a dress code (please wear clothes though!) Robert Plant has been spotted at this pub that has also found itself listed in the Lonely Planet.

What we thought of it: One bar where you can scribble your drunken thoughts on the wall! The Ghetto is one of the economical options for good music and drinks. Not much of a dance place, but it does have pool tables. Chilled would perhaps be the ideal word to describe it. This place is one of the few places in Mumbai that is dedicated to rock music. Thankfully, you won't get to hear some soppy boyband music in here.
The Jim Morrison on the wall along with the Division Bell and the other graffiti add to the charm of this place. It also has a special food section called In a Jiffy, which offers home delivery. The Ghetto continues to be a favourite with the rockers of the city.
Ultraviolet doesn't get any better! So here's the deal:
The Ghetto plays classic rock and nothing else -- mostly the standards but also some other great bands from the 70s and early 90s (skipping the 80s has always been the best idea for rock DJs).
So on the face of it, nothing special because tons of places in Bombay play classic rock and nothing else.
Right?
Wrong!
Because none of those other places combine classic rock with turn-your-teeth-shiny-white-bright ultraviolet light, innit!
INNIT! (hat-tip to Goodness Gracious Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTTBPELubFI&feature=PlayList&p=501A74F8FCC5311C&index=3 in case you're wondering)
I have to tell you, this ultraviolet stuff is immense. Revolutionary. Game-changing. It's a wonder other pubs/bars haven't copied this already. What's going on here? Is there an embargo on UV light that I don't know of.
Anyway, The Ghetto does have this UV stuff and it's crazy entertaining. No better conversation starter on a blind date than staring into the smiling face of your date and finding that they have a couple of fillings (trust me, you will immediately notice. UV light is the X-ray of tooth fillings).
On the downside, apart from the UV light, The Ghetto doesn't have much going for it. Sure it has pool but really, who plays pool in India?
