What we thought of it: We've been regulars at the branc of 5 spice which is located amidst old Victorian office buildings. Slightly difficult to find, but worth the effort. Due to space constraints you'll always find yourself waiting in line to be seated. So when they opened in Bandra we expected to waltz in and out as we please. However once the janta from the suburbs realised how fantastic the food here is, I still find myself waiting to be seated. So do make reservations ahead of your meal.
The food menu is extensive and hence gives you a lot to choose from. Alcohol is available along with a list of Cocktails and Mocktails to intice you, all at reasonable prices.
Please be warned that each portion of Chinese Rice or Noodles is enough to feed 5 healthy appetites. So don't fill up on your main course as the desert spread is tempting and strategically placed, so you see it as you enter the restaurant. If you dont have an appetite to be ashamed of be sure to have company or you're wasting good food.
Though the food isn't as spicy as some would want it to be, the food here is definitely good enough to keep you coming back for more.
To our dismay!! we used to love this place for some quality, value for money Chinese food. But we visited this place recently and were shocked to see how such a reputed chain could fail so miserably at what they do best. The service was pathetic. The food was very average, and to top it off, the place looks unhygienic now. Even though the branch in lokhandwala might seem like a different offering, i suggest none of you guys should try it till these people learn their lesson and get back on track.
Well, in addition to the ratings that I have given this place, I would definitely recommend 5 Spice to big foodies who have a bit of patience also. Not only do you have to wait a loooong time (be it for lunch/dinner) for a table, you would probably have to wait a good time for even the starters to arrive!...(Twice during weekday luncheons, I had to wait for about 30 mins for my Manchow soup!)... Only thing that makes you happy post that long wait (outside + over the table) is the quantity of the food. So "patient foodies" go ahead...have a great time...! Cheers!
5 Spice, Fort It has been one of the best dining experience that I have had. We (me and couple of my friends) decided to raid this quaint little place tucked neatly beside the RBI bank in town. The servers were very friendly and guided us through out. The seating was comfortable and the ambience had a soothing effect! We had burnt garlic rice, hunan chicken in black sauce, garlic prawns and steamed veggies in white sauce with loads of broccoli. I must say the servers had the patience to explain to us the dishes that we asked. The best part of the whole evening was all 5 of us gaping at the pastries that they had to offer :) That was one of amazing experience that is unforgettable :) even the servers were having there share of fun looking us gaping at them with glitter in our eyes and the sparkle in our smiles! They have got some of the best ones in town. The must have are death by chocolate, blueberry cheesecake and chocolate mousse. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and a good meal for 2 would cost anywhere between 800 – 1200.
